YOUTHBUILD HISTORY AND OBJECTIVES ProvPlan has been the organizational home to YouthBuild Providence since the program’s inception in 1996. During the past nine years, we have had over 100 young adults graduate from our program – transitioning from our program into jobs, union apprenticeship programs, and post-secondary education. We have constructed and rehabilitated more than 10 units of affordable housing in conjunction with local community development corporations and Habitat for Humanity. YouthBuild Providence has established four objectives designed to help disadvantaged young adults gain the academic, work, and life skills needed to succeed in the workforce. They include: - Complete a high-quality alternative education curriculum that enhances literacy and numeracy skills and leads to the successful attainment of a GED.
- Learn marketable construction skills through a hands-on instruction curriculum that includes guest instruction by union construction workers and the building of affordable housing units in the City.
- Improve the quality of distressed neighborhoods and help our trainees develop leadership skills through a 900-hour community-service program
- Transition from our program into good jobs with upward mobility, union apprenticeship programs, and/or post-secondary opportunities.
