Housing Stock 47% of Providence’s 67,915 housing units are 60 years or older; considerably higher than the state percentage (29%) and the national percentage (15%). Rate of Home Ownership Home ownership rate in Providence is 35%; considerably lower than the state rate of 60% and the national rate of 66%. Vacancy Status 8.1% of housing units in Providence are vacant; slightly higher than the state rate of 7.1% and slightly lower than the national rate of 9.0%. Housing Sales In calendar year 2004, the Blackstone neighborhood had the highest median sales price for a residential property at $446,000 while Upper South Providence had the lowest at $175,000. Households with Children There are slightly more single-parent households with children (11,563) than two-parent households (10,378) in Providence.
